Just wanted to let those of you who are familiar with me know that I'm back, after being on vacation for the past month and a half. Well rested and ready to go again, I will shortly begin updating the General Information section of my A3 site, which I already did once, but then lost due to an extremely active computer using five year old. Incidentally, certain magnets can erase information of a CD, which is something I never knew before. I'll start working on it in the next couple of weeks and will hopefully update the site as I go along, taking into account the many suggestions made by various people. Good to be back. -------------------- And the Glory of the Light did shine upon him. And the Peace of the Light did he give men. Binding nations to him. Making one of many. Yet the shards of hearts did give wounds. And what was once did come again -in fire and in storm splitting all in twain. For his peace... -for his peace... ... was the peace... ... was the peace... ... of the sword. And the Glory of the Light did shine upon him. Meane sol Ahelle Check out my Avernum 3 site. This one is incomplete, but better than the one here which is complete, sort of. Posts: 926 | Registered: Tuesday, November 19 2002 08:00 |

Good to have you back. And before my conscience is eating me, I better start working on the site again. If I might have copies of whatever it was you had on that CD, say so. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

What kind of magnet could erase a CD? -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Welcome back, although since I just joined the other day, I never knew that you were gone. That magnet must have been a nice strong one like the ones you get out of your hard drive. Posts: 8 | Registered: Sunday, August 3 2003 07:00 |

Thanks, ef, but I don't think you have the stuff I was working on. I somehow never got a hold of you to find out if I should send it to you, or if I could just update the site myself. As to the magnet, I have no idea what type of magnet it is, all I know is that he got it from his father, and that it is now stuck to the fridge where I have yet to find a way to get it off short of disassembling the fridge itself. It wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't done it in conjunction with doing something to my computer causing a fatal error and resulting in me having to re-format the whole thing yet again. Fortunately the folks at SpidWeb were very understanding and sent me new keys for the games I'd bought no problem. -------------------- And the Glory of the Light did shine upon him. Hello Revenge/Rachel. I'm not sure about a CD-wiping magnet though. -------------------- I'm tired of the strain and the pain, ohhh, I'm tired of the strain and the pain. Lair of Blades Wise Forums Desperance Polaris Bash Posts: 1112 | Registered: Friday, July 19 2002 07:00 |

Magnets do all sorts of weird things to computers. I've heard of magnets doing very strange things to floppy disks, but never to CDs, though I presume it can happen. -------------------- KazeArctica: "Imagine...wangs everywhere...and tentacles. CDs do have a metallic layer, but the data isn't stored magnetically. You'd need one hell of a magnet to physically distort the shape of a CD. -------------------- I believe there are 15 747 724 136 275 002 577 105 653 961 181 555 468 044 717 914 527 116 709 366 231 425 076 185 631 031 296 protons in the universe, and the same number of electrons. -- Sir Arthur Eddington Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

I have heard of a new kind of magnets. They are being advertized somewhere in the internet. Tiny things and not expensive at all, but strong enough to draw an anvil. They even hold dollar-notes, because of the traces of iron in the ink used for printing them. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1828 | Registered: Saturday, January 11 2003 08:00 |

I could see a CDRW being damaged by a magnet, but a CDRW could be damaged by a slight breeze. Horrible medium. If you're close enough to the kind of magnet that it would take to warp a CDR, on the other hand, you'd better watch your fillings. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Welcome back! Superconductors can act as very strong magnets, even small ones. But those are just a little bit expensive. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1614 | Registered: Wednesday, January 23 2002 08:00 |

That's sure an extremely efficient child, which can erase all your data from your PC and wipe your CDs with a magnet. Scary - I'd panic if someone like that was within 100 miles of my PC... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Hey Rache! Welcome back! I was very near you for a moment, I think, that is in Victoria. Still in very intermittent reach of the internet, though. Take care! -------------------- KazeArctica: Oh yes. KazeArctica: Oh YES Posts: 93 | Registered: Sunday, September 30 2001 22:00 |

Yes, it was a CDRW, and he is a very resourceful child. I always say that if I was going to have a child who was so full of mischief, I wish he could at least have been a little bit stupider. I don't know what he did to the computer, but he does it intermittently... usually no more than three or four times a year. -------------------- And the Glory of the Light did shine upon him. I AM BACK TOO!! After probably a year of wandering, I have returned. And the magnet probably permanentally made the CDRW unusable; that's what it does to hard drives and cassette tapes. And gosh, with all 3k+ members, I'm beginning to feel old... -------------------- "Insanity is okay, but stupidity is inexcusable." -Kenda Nicole Brand Jacob say, "Man who smoke pot, choke on handle." -Jacob Doran Posts: 202 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Forsooth... unless Khoth actually succeeds in his attempt to corrupt my only child, whyever would I actually want to do away with him? Arctic, there are some things that should not be spoken about. Rache, would you mind teaching your son to read?
